About our Lower School Library

  • Over 4000 book titles for K-5 students: Check-Out Day is always highly anticipated!
  • Students learn library terminology, procedures, book selection skills, and proper library behavior.
  • Dewey Decimal System's Ten Classes: students practice finding nonfiction titles and subjects according to Dewey Decimal classification
  • Read-a-loud time: various fiction, nonfiction and poetry books are enjoyed and listening and comprehension skills are reinforced
  • Students are introduced to a variety of authors and illustrators such as Jan Brett, Eric Carle, and Patricia Polacco.
  • Appreciation for excellence in literature: Caldecott and Newbery Awards
  • Special events: Book Fair, Read Across America (Dr. Seuss' Birthday)
