We are Defenders! HCA’s student body is active, dynamic, and diverse. Our students are also unified as brothers and sisters in Christ and as fellow HCA Defenders. They love and support one another with the love and servant’s heart of Jesus. They stand as one body, with the goal of becoming more and more like Christ.
While our students are united, they have also been uniquely created with their own personalities, interests, and talents. Your child is an individual at HCA. We believe in cultivating the gifts that God has given to each student in ways that challenge and encourage them to succeed and to figure out who they are in Christ.
“For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,’ that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.”
– 1 Corinthians 12:14-20
At HCA, our rigorous academics, award-winning music program, competitive athletic program, and creative art program (and much more!) span a broad range of areas and topics, allowing each student to discover where his or her specific giftings lie. Each precious child, created in God’s image, displays God’s beauty in a unique way. Our desire is for all of our students to be confident in who they are in Christ, and in who God created them to be.
The theme for our 2018 Annual HCA Banquet was, “Defender Defined.” Woven through that theme was the message that all HCA students are Defenders, and there is great unity in that. However, they are all unique individuals as well. Banquet attendees enjoyed testimonies from five different HCA students, each of whom represented an area in which God had gifted him or her. It was a beautiful example of the individuality on our campus, and of the many ways God has blessed our students. Below are some snippets from our Defenders’ Banquet speeches:
“The knowledge of the truth has provided me with the courage to define myself as a Defender of Christian education and of Christ himself, and to truly live to bring honor to Him.” -Angie Lovato, Defender of Academics
“A Defender of Athletics is a person who strives to achieve a standard of excellence while playing his particular sport, but who also allows Christ to lead this excellence.” -Justin Augustin, Defender of Athletics
“So what does it mean to be a Defender of Music at HCA? I believe it means to bring all glory to Him, whether in song or deed. Proclaim his glory to all the earth.” -Jonathan Alektiar, Defender of Music
“Defenders are like living mirrors who imitate Christ. As a Defender of Art, I hope that what I create reminds people that an Ultimate Artist exists, and that we are his beloved creation.” -Czarina Manipon, Defender of Art
“My goal as a Defender is to cultivate relationships that revolve around the person of Jesus, and that are characterized by truth, trust, honesty, reliability, and accountability.” -Christine Pelliccio, Defender of Community
