Hawthorne Christian Academy is a day school for students in preschool through grade twelve. We are a coeducational, college preparatory school that provides a strong academic program based on the truths and principles of Scripture.

At HCA, we build foundations for life, instilling lasting values in our students. We attend to the present well-being of our students, with their futures in mind, as ambassadors for Christ with a mission and a destiny.

We believe that, according to Proverbs 22:6, as we, “Train a child in the way he should go,… when he is old he will not turn from it.”

Hawthorne Christian Academy was founded in 1981 as a ministry of Hawthorne Gospel Church. It was a vision laid upon the hearts of the leaders of HGC to create a place where children could receive a solid spiritual and academic education. In the years since, the vision has remained the same: to weave a biblical worldview through every aspect of the educational experience.

ERVINA GUNAWAN

ERVINA GUNAWAN

PS Teacher's Aide
ERVINA GUNAWAN
Preschool Teacher's Aide

God led Mrs. Gunawan to HCA when her son started his first year of preschool in 2009. She volunteered as the PTF Class Rep in 2010 when he was in kindergarten, and served in that role for three years. When her daughter started preschool in 2013, she volunteered to help all Lower School teachers with anything they needed, because she appreciated their love and commitment to the children.

In her years of volunteering, she truly started to understand the proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” It indeed took everyone in the community surrounding her children to raise them to learn about who our God is, how He loves us, and how we should live in His Word. While serving God through HCA, Mrs. Gunawan realized that it was her responsibility to guide and teach each child who our God is.

In 2015, God opened the door for Mrs. Gunawan to officially become part of the HCA family as a Teacher’s Aide in Half-Day Preschool. Since then, God has taught her how to love His children unconditionally, guide them in His ways, and teach them to respect themselves and others. Each morning, she is excited to start the day with God’s love and peace, and to be an inspiration to others.

ISABEL DAVIS

ISABEL DAVIS

Administrative Assistant
ISABEL DAVIS
Administrative Assistant
Mrs. Davis praises God for the many involved in leading her to the Lord at an early age and an even closer walk with Him in her late teens. Her bookkeeping and secretarial skills were put to the test upon graduation from high school, when she managed a one-girl office for ten years. During that time she met her husband. Their wedding ceremony was unique in that they shared a double wedding ceremony with her sister and brother-in-law. Mrs. Davis served as a Church Secretary for fifteen years, assisted her husband in bookkeeping as he served as Church Treasurer, and for over 55 years she has both taught Sunday School and has sung in her church choir. Mrs. Davis was a secretary at Brookdale Christian School, Bloomfield, NJ for 23 years and she has been at Hawthorne Christian Academy since 2005. The Lord blessed her and her husband with two daughters and both became teachers in Christian education. One has been serving the Lord for over 20 years in Christian schools in both Korea and Japan. Their second daughter was in the first high school graduating class at Hawthorne Christian Academy (1989), a graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University (now Cairn University) and has taught junior high and lower school for over 10 years. Now she is a busy mother of three, Church Secretary, Women’s Bible study teacher, and teaches part-time at HCA. When Mrs. Davis left Brookdale Christian School, her search for employment brought no results. While having a personal Bible study one morning, a thought was presented. If you are serving the Lord, are you serving Him where He wants you to serve? The focus of her prayer that morning was, Lord, direct my steps to where You want me to serve you. As she ended the prayer, the telephone rang. On the other end of the wire was the Principal of HCA, a complete stranger. He was calling to see if she was interested in coming in for an interview to serve as a Receptionist/Administrative Assistant. That was the day she joined the HCA family and has been blessed to serve the Lord here ever since.
